With over 1000 hours of training under his belt and more than 20 years of actual teaching experience, Douglas Johnson – E-RYT 500, YACEP is one of the southeast’s most experienced and well-trained yoga teachers. Founder of the Mahāpatha Yoga community, Douglas has led a countless number of classes, kirtans, retreats, workshops, and teacher-trainings since he started teaching yoga and meditation two decades ago.
Douglas has had the privilege to study with some of the best that modern yoga has to offer like Amrit and Kamini Desai, Paul Grilley, and Andrey Lappa. He currently holds certifications in Kripalu Yoga, Yin Yoga, Universal Yoga, Amrit Yoga, and Pranakriya Yoga and has also studied with Deva Parnell (Kripalu), Rod Stryker (Para Yoga), and Yoganand Michael Carroll (Pranakriya).
A life-long semi-professional musician, Douglas often integrates the practice of Kirtan (call and response chanting in Sanskrit) into his teaching, having learned it directly from modern masters of the art like David “Durga Das” Newman, Jai Uttal, and Sean Johnson. Douglas is currently studying Vedic mantra and the Yoga of Sound with internationally acclaimed author and teacher Russill Paul.
In addition to teaching asana and mantra, Douglas has been practicing and teaching meditation for over two decades and is also a certified Amrit-Method Advanced Yoga Nidra Facilitator.
