Michelle Boyd, PhD is an award-winning scholar, writer, coach, and founder of InkWell Academic Writing Retreats. She spent the first part of her career as a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) researching and writing about African American political identity. After earning tenure, Michelle began developing programs to help herself, her students and her colleagues reconnect with their research by uncovering their unique writing process. In 2012 she cofounded and coached WriteOut! a dissertation writing retreat for UIC graduate students studying race and ethnicity. Three years later she founded InkWell Academic Writing Retreats, where she offers intensive, individually-tailored writing retreats that help scholars understand who they are as writers. Michelle is currently at work on a book entitled Becoming the Writer You Already Are: An Academic’s Guide to Discovering Your Writing Process.
